A Message From Dr. Titus-Thomas

I am proud to be considered a well-trained mental health provider who is here with open and caring arms to provide the care that you need. One who offers detail-oriented, evidence-based, personalized care built on hope and trust that will allow you to regain and sustain the peace of mind you deserve. Your care will be provided virtually from the comfort of your own home.

I am a citizen of the United States who natively hails from the beautiful sun-shiny hills of Jamaica. I am a board-certified Psychiatric and Mental Health nurse practitioner. I also hold a medical degree certified in Cuba, Jamaica, and the Caribbean Islands, and I have a United States certificate from the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. I was awarded an academic scholarship to pursue a Medical degree in Cuba. Premedical studies were completed in Cienfuegos, Cuba, and Medicine in Santiago de Cuba. I graduated in 2005, after which I practiced at the Kingston Public Hospital, Victoria Jubilee Hospital, and The Bustamante Hospital for Children in Kingston Jamaica. I last held the post of that of an Emergency Room Physician. I later migrated to the United States of America. I completed all steps of the US Medical Board Examinations and hold an ECFMG Certificate without successfully landing a medical residency spot.

I hold 2 certificates as a Professional Medical Interpreter. I worked part-time in this capacity in several hospitals in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, such as Fox Chase Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania, Temple University Hospital, and Capital Health Regional Medical Center. I am also an expert, in Home and Community Rehabilitation, with competence in working with challenging clients, for example, those with Degenerative Diseases such as Huntington’s disease and Cerebral Palsy.

I completed my prerequisite studies for Nursing at Bucks County Community College and later completed the 12-month accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at Thomas Edison State University. I later practiced nursing in the areas of Surgical trauma, medical-surgical, telemetry, home care, surgical oncology, inpatient psychiatry, and crisis, at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, Southern Ocean Medical Center, Capital Health Hopewell, and New Born Nurses.

I later pursued a Master of Science degree in Nursing, as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner across the life span and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Wilkes University. I have since been practicing at Catholic Charities Diocese of Trenton NJ serving the most vulnerable population.

I am a professional provider with a warm, friendly, and caring demeanor. I am cherished by my husband and adored by my son, daughter, and extended family and friends. I easily gain the love of others, possibly because of my warm and welcoming sun-shiny Jamaican smile.

I can’t wait to meet you to help you on your journey to wellness through success in your mental health treatment.

Sincerely,
Dr. Davia Titus-Thomas

Always Strive for Excellence

With Passion, I was driven to be immersed in the field of Psychiatry, and Mental Health: the specialty of my dream. As an innately caring, compassionate, ethical, and kind individual, a future of contentment and a sense of accomplishment unfolded after being allowed to pursue further studies in this specialty and most of all, to be able to practice as a Nurse Practitioner who, makes a difference in the life of many and can culminate the day with a smile of fulfillment and joy radiating from the face.

I reflect on the knowledge I acquired during medical and nursing school and appreciate that as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatric and Mental Health, I can incorporate all these subject areas into my practice. I am fascinated by the fact that I can use the knowledge I have gained, to perform a clinical assessment and formulate a treatment plan for my patients.

Throughout my formative years, I was always taught the importance of striving for excellence, and I am anxious to unveil my potential to you. I have also learned that striving for excellence is not simply a personal triumph but an obligation that I hold to my family, my community, and society as a whole to be the best Nurse Practitioner and the best human being that I could ever be.

During my years of medical training and nursing school, I recall how enthusiastic I was about Psychiatry from the first lecture. Studying the mind is unique and is distinguished amongst all other specialties. How a patient presents is intriguing, as many symptoms are invisible and cannot be verified. These symptoms, however, are regarded as serious, as failure to do so, could lead to the demise of the patient. Here in the United States, I have witnessed firsthand the tragic effects that result from a lack of resources that promote success in mental health treatment. There is a lack of consistency in follow-up care, a lack of affordable insurance coverage, and a decreased availability of trained professionals in this area. This leads to treatment relapse and a decrease in the ability of patients to function on a normal level in society. I am passionate about making a difference in this area despite these obstacles.

While pursuing my medical career abroad, I was exposed to the challenges of living in a foreign country, mastering my career learning in a second language as well as adjusting to a new socioeconomic system. However, this was surpassed by the thrill of learning, applying my knowledge, and realizing how my achievements were helping to bring health and comfort to others and even save lives. The challenges have even been more intense here in the United States, however, regardless of countless hindrances, I never became complacent nor satisfied with the level of knowledge that I had previously gained. I used the positive attitude and skills I possess, and continue to excel as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry and Mental Health. As I expand my knowledge, I do so not only for my gain but also to contribute to the lives of my patients and professional colleagues. Despite the several challenges I experienced while trying to achieve my goals, through my volunteer and work experiences here in the United States, I feel ready and confident to be your Psychiatric and Mental Health provider. My life experiences have given me the maturity necessary to be of substantial support and guidance to you.

As your provider, I am committed to playing an integral role in your mental health success, I vow to provide you with the most humane, in-depth, and accurate Nurse Practitioner care. I would feel honored to be able to assist you. My ultimate goal is to be an ardent provider, who consistently strives to unleash success through achieving your individualized Psychiatric and mental health goals.
